US$15 million Ecobank facility supports Zimbabwe’s export SMEs
Afreximbank has extended a US$15 million facility to Ecobank Zimbabwe to support small and medium-sized businesses participating in export value chains. The financing is intended to provide working capital and capital expenditure support across sectors including agribusiness, manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, technology and the creative economy.
Afreximbank’s public announcement also describes capacity-building support covering export readiness, operations, financial management, marketing and digitalisation. The combination addresses both the funding needed to fulfil orders and the business capabilities required to compete in regional markets.
For buyers, the development highlights a practical constraint in supplier selection: a capable producer may still struggle to finance production before payment arrives. Access to appropriately structured funding can help a business invest in equipment, purchase inputs and organise delivery.
The facility is provided through Ecobank Zimbabwe. It should not be presented as automatic funding for every exporter or as a direct grant from Afreximbank. Businesses will need to establish eligibility and financing terms with the relevant institution.
African Buyers Programme members sourcing from Zimbabwe can ask suppliers how they plan to fund larger orders and whether their production timetable matches the proposed payment schedule. Suppliers considering expansion can prepare evidence of demand, costings and a account of how additional capital would improve delivery.
The buyer perspective is to connect finance with commercial requirements. Reliable forecasts, realistic order quantities and transparent specifications help both parties understand the resources needed. That preparation can support stronger negotiations and dependable supply relationships as Zimbabwean firms pursue opportunities across African and international markets.
