Chad secures EUR110 million facility for trade infrastructure
Afreximbank has announced a financing facility equivalent to EUR110 million in local currency for the Government of Chad, supporting infrastructure intended to enable trade. The agreement was signed in Cairo on 5 August 2026 and announced on 10 August.
The financing is linked to projects approved under Chad’s 2026 Finance Law. Afreximbank’s announcement describes it as the bank’s largest financing support to the country and connects the facility with a partnership on economic development and local value addition.
For a landlocked market, the significance of infrastructure is closely tied to the movement of goods. Better connections between production locations, distribution centres and neighbouring markets can influence the range of sourcing relationships that businesses are able to sustain.
The announcement establishes a financing commitment, but it does not provide a confirmed list of open contracts. Individual project details and implementation arrangements will determine where opportunities emerge for equipment suppliers, contractors and service businesses.
The buyer perspective is to follow the funded programme at the level of assets and delivery requirements. What infrastructure will be developed, which organisations will implement it, and when will procurement begin? Those questions offer a better starting point than treating the amount as available business.
African Buyers Programme members interested in Chad can prepare capability statements and identify local partners while monitoring official project notices. Buyers considering future sourcing relationships should examine transport arrangements and delivery costs. The financing announcement offers a reason to follow the market, while commercial commitments should remain grounded in confirmed operating conditions.
